Keenesburg is the place to be!

Luke closed on our little house out in Keenesburg, CO one year ago today :)  I sure miss it!  I get to see it on the webcam when Luke and I chat, but I sure miss all my wonderful furniture and my beautiful bedroom and my own kitchen....just everything!  I really love that house!

It has such wonderful character, having been built in 1930.  It has some interesting quirks because of that as well, but it makes it special.  Luke had put an offer in on another house before we found this one, and his offer wasn't accepted.  We were so bummed at the time - little did we know what God had in store for us!  We looked at a couple other places, but nothing really struck a chord with us.  Luke had been talking about Keenesburg, Brighton, Hudson, etc, for awhile and about how really it's no further away than living in Denver or other outlying suburbs like that....it was just the other direction!  So one day we went out to look at this house that was for sale out there - it was nothing to write home about from the outside, but when we peeked into the windows (It was a HUD home, so it was vacant!) we saw these amazing wood floors and arched doorways, and SO much room, and so many windows!  We looked in the backyard and saw a very good sized yard with a very large garage running along the rear alley (later to become known as Luke's ManShed!).  We called up our realtor that day and made an appt to set up a viewing ASAP!  We loved it from the moment we saw it :)  And Keenesburg was such a picturesque town, with a little Main Street only a couple of blocks from our house.  A little teeny post office and town hall and a couple of antique shops....it was great!  We were only a couple blocks from I-76, but we couldn't hear any traffic noise at all.  It was just perfect! :)

It took a few months for all the work to be done on it, and all the paperwork to go through....and there were a few hiccups along the way, but in the end, Luke closed on it on May 8, 2009 and we got to go home for the first time!  We took the weekend to bring our furniture over from our storage unit, but once we had it all in the home, we were so excited to spend our first night there!  Our first dinner consisted of crackers and nutrigrain bars and some applesauce :)  And we didn't have a couch yet, so we lounged in our big red Canada lawn chairs!  But we were so excited that it was all ours!!!

Mom and Alina came a week later and did such an amazing job helping us paint and do work and get it all set up!  Mom bought amazing couches for us - they fit perfectly in the living room! :)  She even surprised us by flying Dad out for the remaining few days of their trip...it was perfect!!  They all did so much work, and I know the house wouldn't look nearly as good as it does now if they hadn't been there to help us!

I am missing being home so much, but I hope and pray that I will be back soon.  I know that we have been so blessed with the ability to purchase this home - it will be an amazing investment for our future....no matter where our future is.  I can't wait to get home! :)
